Unlike other laser hair removal treatments, the GentleMax Pro laser is effective in targeting all hair colors. What Happens During a GentleMax Pro Session?
At the start of your GentleMax Pro laser treatment session, your skin is cleaned, and you’ll be provided with protective eyewear. Your Forefront provider uses a small handpiece to deliver a pulse of laser light energy to the treatment area. The device also releases a cooling spray to protect the skin and reduce discomfort from the laser pulse.
You may feel slight discomfort during treatment, which has been described as a rubber band snapping against the skin. Although the cooling mechanism helps minimize discomfort, you can ask your provider to apply a topical anesthetic before starting your treatment session.
For additional comfort, your provider may apply a cool compress or gel pack at the end of your treatment session. Depending on the area and condition being treated, your GentleMax Pro laser treatment session can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.
After treatment, your skin may appear red and swollen, similar to a mild sunburn. There is no downtime associated with GentleMax Pro, and you can immediately resume most of your normal activities. We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure to the treatment area and using harsh cleansers while the skin heals.
When Will I See Results From a GentleMax Pro Treatment?
Multiple treatment sessions are needed to achieve permanent hair removal. Since hair grows in stages, you’ll schedule a series of treatments approximately six to eight weeks apart to target them all while they’re all in the growth stage. After each treatment session, the hair that grows is finer and lighter in color.
Most facial veins and spider veins on the legs clear after a single treatment session. Pigmented lesions, such as seborrheic keratosis and moles, usually require two to four treatment sessions for permanent removal. Two to four treatment sessions are also usually needed for a noticeable reduction of lines, wrinkles, and brown spots from sun damage. Areas Treated With Candela GentleMax Pro® Laser
Angiomas (Cherry)
The laser’s energy is highly attracted to hemoglobin. The laser energy effectively coagulates the unwanted vessels, which will then be broken down and absorbed by the body.
Acne (Face, Body)
The laser’s energy heats the vessels feeding the sebaceous gland to inhibit excess sebum production and prevent future breakouts. It also suppresses inflammation of active acne and superheats p. acnes bacteria to effectively destroy it deep within the skin.
Skin Revival (Face, Neck, Chest)
The laser’s energy is absorbed in water to cause bulk heating of the papillary dermis, stimulating the formation of new collagen, smoothing fine lines, reducing large pores, and ‘shrink wrapping’ or tightening the skin.
Hyperpigmentation
The laser is absorbed in melanin to diminish the hyperpigmented areas. Some patients will respond better than others and the number of treatments for each lesion may depend on the darkness and size of the lesion as well as the amount of laser energy used.
Melasma (Any Area)
The laser’s energy is absorbed in melanin and helps to break up the pigmentation. The laser energy is also absorbed in hemoglobin and coagulates the hyper vasculature that forms beneath affected areas. Melasmacan have a dermal and epidermal pigment component. It can also have an inflammation component with increased vascularity. The Neo decreases these issues.
Rosacea (Any Area)
The laser’s energy is absorbed in hemoglobin to break down diffused redness and, at higher fluences, will also coagulate capillaries or spider veins that may supply blood into affected areas. Rosacea tends to subside after the first or subsequent treatments.
Regardless of the treatment response, recurrence is common and may be caused by a number of medical or lifestyle factors. Remember that rosacea is a chronic condition that can only be controlled rather than cured. Heat and friction can exacerbate the condition. Certain foods, allergies, and lifestyle choices may also be a trigger.
Scars And Striae (Any Area)
The laser’s energy is absorbed into hemoglobin to reduce vascularity and redness from the scar. The laser’s energy is also absorbed into the water, which will help stimulate collagen production to improve the texture and the overall appearance of the scar. Collagen remodeling will occur at some level to help with skin texture.
Warts And Skin Tags
The laser’s energy is absorbed in hemoglobin to superheat and coagulate vasculature feeding the wart. Some patients will respond better than others and the number of treatments for each lesion may depend on the depth and size of the warts underlying vascular structure.
Spider Veins (Face, Legs)
The laser’s energy effectively coagulates the unwanted vessels, which the body will break down and absorb. After treatment, rust-colored staining of adjacent skin tissue, called hemosiderin, may appear from the breakdown of hemoglobin and tends to subside over the course of a few weeks. Crusting, scabbing, and temporary spot hypopigmentation will sometimes occur at the treatment site.
Toenail Fungus
The laser’s energy is absorbed in water and melanin in and around the fungus in the nail bed and nail matrix to superheat and destroy the fungus.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser energy is absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and follicle, superheating and destroying them. A very good result with laser hair removal is when approximately 15% clearance is achieved in each treatment session and a final outcome of clearance of 80% or more after 6 treatments are exceptional, as per laser industry standards.
